Fremont's River Run/Walk 2007

A tremendous thank you to all of our generous sponsors and enthusiastic 2007
River Run/Walk participants for another fantastic year! This year we decided to
change our route due to traffic concerns. We did not want to conflict with the
vendors setting up for the River Day celebration in downtown Fremont. So the
run/walk began at the Partridge Lake Beach Park and proceeded to the Baylake
Bank driveway, turned around and headed back past the beach to the Blue Top
Resort waterfront, turned around there and headed back to the beach pavilion.
Although the new route added some challenges, such as the hill at Blue Top,
overall we were very happy with the new route, especially not having to worry about
traffic problems. A special thank you to the Blue Top Resort owners, Ron and
Debby Gramer for allowing us to run on their property. Having two spots that the
run was near Fremont's waterways, made it truly a "Take Me to the River" event!
This year we were thankfully so fortunate again with the weather conditions! What
started out as a grey, threatening sky, cleared up and yet stayed cool for the
morning event. The refreshment tables after the run were full of generous
donations from our sponsors for the runners and walkers to enjoy. From fresh cut
melons, sub sandwiches, bagels and cream cheese, to healthful muffins and
homemade cookies, the participants had plenty to pick from to refuel.
Barbara Byrnes from Aurora Health care offered free health screening tests, and
participants enjoyed their goody bags filled with donations from area sponsors.
Awards were given to the top three men and women in each age division:
13 and under; 14-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over. Rick
Seefeldt from Stevens point was the overall first place winner. Chris Walsh from
Campus, Illinois was the first place female winner. John Hessil, who > traveled all
the way from the Milwaukee area, was thrilled to win first place in his age division,
70-79!
